Honestly, I can't give an informed opinon about this machine you are considering on ebay, becasue I haven't seen it in person or in a photo. I can say that it is possible for the discoloration to just be crud, but I can't rule anything out 100%. If the ebay purchase doesn't pan out, I do hae a couple of mocha short bed 301's here. If interested, contact me directly.

HI-larious! He is so darn cute. My little guy was SO chubby at that age. I stuffed him with breast milk b/c he was born with pneumonia and almost lost him.

I'm waiting with BATED breath for your 117K review! Do you think you can find a replacement light for the front light like the one on your 117K?

Jenny, thanks so much for your wonderful blog. It's been an amazing resource while I've been hunting for my first vintage machine.

So, I've been looking at getting a 301, 401, or 500. I recently found a 301 in my price range on eBay, but there's some reddish discoloration on the paint, mostly by the thread take-up. I was wondering if this is likely to be something "serious", an indication that the paint is iffy, or something else entirely. If you have any ideas what this is, I'd greatly appreciate your input. Thanks so much!

S-ah-WEEEEEEET! Someone just gave me one of these in the cabinet. But it's a FIXER, big time. Rust, pitting and all but I can't wait to get it up and running. My light is the same color as the machine and a little different than yours. I have the original 1953 sales receipt, but, alas, no manual or service manual ): The cabinet is way cool and I will take a picture if you like. It looks like a dresser. When you pull out the drawer facade, the facade is the back of the chair. There is a large deep drawer that fits perfectly under the chair (very unlike singers) and can be pushed out either side for access. There is a notions tray that fits inside the top of the drawer. The veneer is peeling all over the place but it is such an ingenious cabinet design I have to figure out how to salvage it. I CANNOT wait for your review! Are you selling this 117K? ~Page

On a 15-90, you can use a V--belt-solid black 15-3/8" or the Lug V-blet 15 3/8"

How to measure and install a sewing machine belt

Some fresh oil couldn't hurt.

I believe I have just found the replacement part on your site...the Standard Bobbin Winder Tire Ring. Please excuse my haste in writing first...I was a bit panicked.

I'd like to replace the belt also. Could you advise me which will fit? And are there any other parts you would recommend replacing, as this machine hasn't been used in 20+ years? Thanks for your help.

Hi again.

I have just attempted to wind a bobbin on my 15-90, and it was quite disastrous. It seems the substance the bobbin winder wheel was made of has grown old and is thus falling apart. It flew all over the place on the first attempt. Then, seeming that it had stopped, I attempted once more...but of course it had worn down so much that it will now not press firmly enough against the belt. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Can you even buy this replacement part? I'm unaware of the formal name of the wheel, as it's not in my manual. Help please.
