Bernina 117K...working on the review- a teaser

All Rights Reserved Copyright 2008-2010 -What does this mean?  (NOTE: you may NOT use my photos or text to sell your stuff!)

Look at what my mom had at her house-  a Bernina 117K!

I am going to be doing a full review of this model.  Right now I am finishing up some research and testing, and getting loads more photographs!  I hope to make it a very thorough review with plenty of information about this sewing machine.  There will even be a PDF copy of the original manual which I scanned and converted.

This particular machine included quite a bit of original documentation which actually conflicts with some theories out there about the Bernina serial number system and dating, but I'll go into more detail later.

It's a BEAST of a machine- every bit as sturdy as it looks. It uses industrial needles and has ZIGZAG,  adjustable needle position, ALL METAL GEARS (unlike so many of the other vintage Berninas), adjustable pressure foot pressure......off to work on the review...be back soon....

      Diana,

      LOL!

I can't tell you how much fun it's been to work with and use this machine.  I'm just so impressed with it.

S-ah-WEEEEEEET! Someone just gave me one of these in the cabinet. But it's a FIXER, big time. Rust, pitting and all but I can't wait to get it up and running. My light is the same color as the machine and a little different than yours. I have the original 1953 sales receipt, but, alas, no manual or service manual ): The cabinet is way cool and I will take a picture if you like. It looks like a dresser. When you pull out the drawer facade, the facade is the back of the chair. There is a large deep drawer that fits perfectly under the chair (very unlike singers) and can be pushed out either side for access. There is a notions tray that fits inside the top of the drawer. The veneer is peeling all over the place but it is such an ingenious cabinet design I have to figure out how to salvage it. I CANNOT wait for your review! Are you selling this 117K? ~Page

          Hi Page,

Your cabinet sounds WAY cool!  contact me privately, I scanned the manual and would be happy to share the PDF.

Yes, I will be selling this machine.  Probably listing it on eBay since I don't really have a great idea what to ask for it.  I plan on doing my usual $9.99 opening bid with no reserve and letting the open market decide what it should sell for.

On the left hand side of my blog, my ebay listings will show up in a mini-window (when I have them).  I've been so busy with parts orders and orders for other machines, that I just haven't had the time to write up the eBay listing and get all the photos.  I wouldn't be opposed to selling it directly.  Contact me if interested.

            Hi
I am interested in purchasing a copy of the manual for the 117K model. I have one but it did not have a manual and it would be handy. Do you know the year your machine was manufactured? Thanks for your time.

I had the privilege to rebuild one of those up once for a lady in Gillette, Wy. The only thing it needed was some tlc with the really old wiring. It was the best rotary hook assembly made I think. It still sews great. What did you name it?
