An Early Christmas Present!

I keep my Singer 201-3 (belted version of the 201-2) in a 7 drawer treadle cabinet in my front room. It's right near the big picture window, so there is loads of good light, and I enjoy having the option to use it with or without electricity. Having so many drawers is really nice for storing all my goodies too! Anyhow, being 100 years old, the finish on the irons was flaking and rusting in a few areas- just enough to leave "treadle dust" on the floor all around it. Unfortunately, this treadle dust doesn't blend in well with all the dog hair already on the floor, so it was bugging me. I got an idea... My husband has some powder coating equipment that he uses in a small side business. So, I asked him to "fix" the irons as my Christmas present this year. He took everything apart and sent the larger items to a local sand blasting company. He blasted the smaller items himself. Then, he powder coated the irons in "wet black". I would have probably preferred a less shiny finish, but he has allot of this powder in stock. Considering it's a gift, I felt it best to not look in the horses mouth so to speak. Anyhow, he lubricated, and adjusted the irons as he re-assembled everything, and even highlighted the lettering and design with a gold (tone) finish. Wow, it treadles soooo smooth and easy- like a dream. I think it looks GREAT! Sew sew happy! My first project using it after it's "makeover" was the camera case for my daughter. A small quilt sandwich, some binding, a button hole and voilĂ - a quilted camera case! |

Exquisite! The gold really brings out the details that are otherwise very easy to overlook. I don't think it's too shiny. It will probably become less shiny with age and dust
Really KEWL..
Extremely Nice to behold..
Just imagine the legacy you have "enabled" for that future sewer..
I like the shiny finish. It's beautiful. Enjoy!
What beautiful workmanship. The gold lettering looks great -- I like it even better than the original.
Jenny,
That looks amazing! Is there anything you guys can't do? I remain impressed.
James,
Among the many things I can't do, proof reading is at the top of the list. I read what I meant, not what I wrote. Oh Well!!
