You are just an awesome person to take your time and do these files for us. I wonder if people realize how much work this is? I sure appreciate your hard work! KUDOS to you!
Gwen Milledge Indiana
Thanks Gwen- I'm glad that these are being enjoyed!
You are a jewel, do you know that? Thank you for taking the time to download everything you do!
By the way...how is your Dad? I am still praying for his good health!
Again, thank you!
Patty,
It's good to know that these brochures are apprecitaed- thank you.
Dad is out of ICU! Yeah! He is very weak from the ordeal, but all of the prayers, well wishes, good thoughts and Karma have been helping.
I am so thankful to hear that! Tell him I said hello and glad to hear he is on the road to good health!
I only found 3 sections to the singer book. Are more coming?
Fyfee
I'm sorry Fyfee, my father recently passed away, and scanning pages of this booklet and converting them to pdf got pushed pretty far down the list. I will get back to it soon.
Thanks for the recent pdf files..I am curious, was this 4 parts new or, did I miss something? You once mention 6 or 7 parts? If there is 7 parts, it might be better to list all of them at once. Just to make it easier to save. I thank you for bring this to us..Vern
Yes, there will be more parts coming just as soon as I get everything scanned and converted to PDF. Every single page must be scanned, one by one . It does take me some time, and yes, part one came first, then two and so on. I suppose I could have just waited and posted them all at once, but I decided to let folks have the option to download them as they are completed. If you prefer to wait until all the sections have been scanned, converted and uploaded, that's always an option.
Unfortunately, I just haven't had quite enough spare time lately to devote to this lately. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. You can subscribe to the entry or blog and receive an email when things get updated and new files are added if that would make things easier for you.
That's fine..I understand your reasoning and, support that. I will be sure to keep an eye out for the new additions as they become available..May I say? THANKS~!
I enjoy learning new things. I will say this..I do not know how to use the Singer machine..Yet?
I wanted to thank you again for taking the time to scan and post this manual!
How are you and your family doing?
Thank you again!
What a fantastic resource! My mother's 201 has all the attachments, but this will actually make it possible for me to utilize them....WooHoo!
Thanks ever so much.
Jenny, thanks so VERY much for your efforts in sharing this kewl information.
Vern
Thank you *so* much for making such a great resource readily available!
Thanks for scanning & converting to PDF file this Singer Manual, and hooking us up with the download...! I have been shopping eBay for a number of Singers' I recently picked up, and noted that virtually every seller in the sewing machine area has "scanned" manuals for sale, and some that is "All" they sell on eBay; either they are scanning their own manual[s] or just downloading Singer's "FREE" Owners manuals, and 'Selling' them.. While I can see paying for an "Original" manual and perhaps more for a particularly "Rare" turn of the century model, to sell "print outs" of a scan or PDF that is "Free" from Singer, to people just strikes me as unconscionable... I very much appreciate your offering this "Students Guide" which is one I just about paid for since it is "not" one of the free downloads on Singer's site... Thank You, for the "Free" Download and for the other links you provide, over all I have come back here a few times, and will continue to do so... your site is both informative & helpful. Cheers-
In reality, it cost me a great deal of time, to do this, so although I don't put price tag on it , it wasn't free. I had to buy the scanner, software and original book too.
I, for one, figured that to be the case.
My heartfelt thanks for your gift to enlighten all of us.
Happy Day!
Enjoy!
Likewise, for you~ All the best that each day brings your way.
FYI, I assumed it was not entirely "Free" for you to post, my statement was more in appreciation of your offering it here at no charge... and further pointing out the obvious I thought; regarding dubious "Sellers" on eBay taking advantage of those who may not be as computer savvy... by selling them that which is offered by Singer, and no doubt others at no charge...
Yep- got that
Well enjoy.
At least they're not selling pet rocks.
Let's be careful not to flame.
The reason these PDF's aren't printinble is to discourage people from taking it and selling it on eBay without permission. I did make printable a copy to share with Sew-Classic customers. I've been including it on a CD with the purchase of some of the vintage machines and parts.
The Sew-Classic customers and folks that donate are what make this blog possible in the first place. Even so, the information and resources here are available to anyone and everyone at no charge.
Dear sew-classic,
Thanks very much for these downloads. I would certainly be glad to pay for a printable pdf version (if I can afford it!). Have you thought about offering this separately from the other customer purchases mentioned above?
Thanks for any consideration of this option.
If you would like to purchase a printable PDF of the manual, you can contact me directly.
Hi there! This is such an awesome reference I can't believe I've found something to tell me what some of those feet are that i purchased as an odd lot on ebay a couple of years ago. You are marvelous!
I'm the gal with the brother project 631 from the mid 60's, short shank, left needle alignment. You gave me some advice on sewing forum about which buttonholer to buy. *I await it's arrival now*. Woooo hoooo! Can't wait.
Anyway, a couple of years ago I bought an odd lot of feet and attachments from ebay for not very much money. All came in a cool red attachment tin marked 'Brother' along with some feet, most of which were marked Griest.
I sat down this morning to try out some of them, i.e. gathering foot, ruffler, etc., and (I know you know what's coming)the needle hits every stinking one of them because they're for centered needle position machines.
The good news is i can use some of the things. I love the tin, I got the cutest little tiny oil can with 'brother' on it. a zipper foot that will/should work because it's adjustable, a quilting guide that fits so all in all I consider my $10 or 15 bucks well spent.
Here's my question. If it hadn't been for you questioning whether or not my machine was one with a centered needle position i would never have known to question it and could have/would have spent good money for feet that won't work.
How can I tell if a foot will fit my machine. Ebay sellers usually have no idea what they're selling. Flea market and yard sales don't either. So is there some part on the foot I can measure to get the answer? Thanks so much. Your website is a teriffic resource and I look forward to supporting it as soon as possible,
Regards,
Sharon
On a low shank foot, the center of the opening for the knurled screw that connects it to the presser bar is about 1/2" up from the bottom of the foot. If the foot is a SS foot, then you will have to look for one offset to the left. for your left needle postion machine.
You will either have to purchase from knowledgable sellers or learn to visually ID what you need. I can order some low shank, left needle feet- there are still some made. For hunting out used ones, you just have to train your eye.

After finding my soul mate at Goodwill, a 1953 15-90, in perfect working order, missing only the bobbin rod. I am so thank full that my next find, was this amazing website. I am currently reading this manual in hopes to learn how to sew. I am 30 years old, and until last night had never sew anything on a sewing machine. I am just giddy !
